I won the lottery!

We often talk about winning the lottery, receiving an inheritance, an unexpected tax return in our favour or a windfall to help our financial progress.

In a comprehensive study of 10,000 millionaires, statistics indicated 79% of millionaires received no inheritance.

What our family has learned is that if receiving a few thousand dollars would change your financial life, you didn’t have much of a financial life to begin with. I know it sounds harsh, and it is harsh; for almost everyone, there isn’t going to be a single financial stroke of luck that will fix your life.

If you’re looking for that moment, it may be a long time coming.

We won the lottery when my wife and I sat down and started shredding credit cards and doing a monthly budget.

We won the lottery when we decided that no matter what problem came our way, it was going to get fixed without us borrowing money over it.

I won the lottery when I decided that I wasn’t going to be able to achieve the financial goals our family has in mind working in an industry that I only “liked” on a good day, and made some changes.

All of these things happen on purpose - you have to be intentional. 96% of millionaires enjoyed what they did for a career, and 64% say they “loved” their jobs.

Christina loves her job. I love my job. That’s totally intentional on our part, and it took some work to get there.

The financial calvary already came; it’s you.
